Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin
The young and hopelessly romantic Tatyana writes a passionate letter confessing her love to Onegin, who is unwilling to settle down and rejects her. After an unfortunate duel resulting in the death of his best friend, Onegin travels for years alone in his torment. He returns to discover Tatyana happily married, and it becomes Onegin’s turn to write her a letter that leads to the opera’s stunningly emotional conclusion. Best known for sweeping audiences off their feet with The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky lovingly gave his melodic gifts to his honest and powerful take on the classic Pushkin novel.
